TGIF

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at school. Today was especially draining because my EL class is testing my classroom management skills and today a fight broke out between two students. It’s mentally and emotionally draining to constantly be dealing with disruptive behaviors. When I consider that I have also been busy with Access testing and other personal agenda items I feel exhausted.

On a positive note, we are almost 80% complete with testing. Compared to last year it feels amazing. Last year we took almost a complete month to fully complete testing. This year, we will be done sometime next week. This means we will have completed everyone in the span of two weeks. It does still mean that I have missed a lot of class and a few preps. There are a lot of changes to work for in the coming years.

My student teacher is now on her way to Mexico to finish her college program by teaching at an elementary school. Reflecting on her time here, I probably learned twice as much from her than she learned from me. Sure, some of those things I learned or relearned were from her mistakes, but teaching is such a vast profession that it’s impossible to ever feel like you have mastered anything. While I did enjoy having her around, I am glad to be back in the classroom and teaching. Sitting idly by and not developing those interpersonal relationships with the students was a very difficult task.
